Statement of faith

It is important to understand the beliefs of anyone who you intend to allow to speak into your life. Not that a disagreement in doctrinal stance should mean you refuse to learn from the other party, rather it is a matter of knowing where the differences lie and choosing to “eat the meat but spit out the bones”.

At the end of the day of the only core belief necessary is that Jesus is God, come to earth in human form, that He died on a cross and rose again on the third day, and that the only way to salvation is through repentance from sin and the acceptance of Jesus as Lord.

Our statement of faith is therefore that:

  1. We believe that the truths conveyed by the words of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are fully inspired of God and without error and we accept them as the supreme and final authority of faith and life.
  2. We believe in one God, eternally existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son (The Lord Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe in the physical incarnation of Jesus Christ and that He was begotten of the Father, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin named Mary, and is now true God and true man.
  4. We believe that God created man in His own image. We thus completely reject the notion of evolution.
  5. We believe that all human individuals have voluntarily sinned and have consequently fallen short of the glory of God. An individual is thus a sinner because he or she sinned, and must therefore face God’s judgement as an individual.
  6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ took the judgement and punishment due to the sinner by dying on the Cross as the perfect sin substitute. He did this on behalf of each individual according to the Scriptures, resulting in the justification of all who believe in Him.
  7. We believe that Jesus Christ lived a perfect life without sin by obeying the moral law for Himself so that He could offer Himself as the perfect sacrifice on behalf of mankind.
  8. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ after three days and three nights in the tomb, His ascension into heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate.
  9. We believe that Jesus Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords now, in this present age.
  10. We believe that satan was totally defeated and humiliated at Calvary.
  11. We believe in the visible, physical and personal return in glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  12. We believe that His Second (and final) Coming will usher in the consummation of the ages and the final judgement.
  13. We believe His Second Coming will be visible and sudden. We reject the notion of a secret rapture prior to the Second Coming.
  14. We believe at the new birth (regeneration) the Holy Spirit personally indwells each believer. He then empowers and equips the believer for service with accompanying supernatural gifts.
  15. We believe in the physical and bodily resurrection of both the just and the unjust at the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. The subsequent eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal banishment of those who have wilfully rejected the offer of salvation.
  16. We believe that the one true Church is the whole company of the regenerated by the Holy Spirit and the redeemed of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  17. We believe the Church to be made up of the regenerated of both the Old and New Testaments. The Church is therefore the household of faith, the seed of Abraham, the Israel of God.
  18. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ appointed two ordinances: Baptism (full immersion) in water and the Breaking of Bread (communion). Both are acts of obedience and a perpetual witness until His Second Coming.
  19. We believe that the water baptism, by full immersion, of the believer is a confession of identification with Christ in burial and resurrection and is a necessary act of obedience for each believer to undertake.
  20. We believe that the candidate for water baptism is already born again. Water baptism cannot save anyone but is a dramatic symbol of what has taken place in the believer’s life in terms of death to the world, burial, and a resurrection into the new life in Christ.
  21. We believe that the Lord’s Supper is the regular and consistent partaking of the emblems symbolic of the Saviour’s broken body and shed blood in remembrance of His sacrificial death until He comes again.
  22. We believe that Divine healing was provided for in the Old and New Testaments and is an integral part of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.
  23. We believe that the Bible teaches that without holiness no one can see the Lord. We therefore believe in the doctrine of sanctification as a definite accomplished state yet a progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of the new birth and continuing until the consummation of salvation.
  24. We believe that every believer is Biblically instructed to tithe (10%) of his or her gross income from any legal source be it wage, salary, debenture, policy maturity, pension, investment income, stocks & shares, rents, sales, etc.
  25. We believe that every believer must give free-will offerings over and above the tithe.
  26. We believe that Christian giving must not be restricted to finance alone, but also to the giving of self in terms of time, skill and effort. However, no one form of giving should replace another, all are valid, vital and necessary.
  27. We state categorically that this Ministry is open to any further truth that the Holy Spirit may illuminate from the Scriptures, or to correct any error unwittingly upheld. We therefore believe that all this ministry may teach is always a work in progress.
  28. Regarding sexual behaviour, we believe in heterosexual relationships between a natural man and natural woman within the confines of lawful matrimony. Adherence to this stated principle of sexual behaviour is an inherent requirement with Bible Alive Teaching Ministry and all its outreach ministries and activities.
